About Mexico Lindo Hawaii
Serving authentic Mexican food on Oahu since 2007
Our Story
Mexico Lindo Hawaii was born from a simple but powerful idea: that the people of Hawaii deserved a place where they could experience truly authentic Mexican food. Not a watered-down version, not a fast-food approximation — but real, flavorful, lovingly prepared Mexican cuisine in an atmosphere that transports you straight to the heart of Mexico.
When we opened our first location at the Kailua Shopping Center in 2007, we knew we were in the right place. Kailua's vibrant community of locals and visitors welcomed us with open arms. The neighborhood's relaxed, beach-town spirit aligned perfectly with the warmth and festivity of Mexican culture. From day one, we felt at home.
Over the years, we have served thousands of customers — families celebrating birthdays, friends meeting for lunch, couples on date nights, and visitors to Hawaii seeking a flavor of something different. Each of those moments matters to us, and each one reinforces why we love what we do.
Two Locations, One Mission
The success of the Kailua location gave us the confidence and resources to expand. We opened our Kalihi location on N. School Street in Honolulu to bring Mexico Lindo to a new community — and the response was just as enthusiastic. The Kalihi neighborhood, known for its diversity and community spirit, proved to be another perfect fit for our restaurant.
Both locations share the same commitment to quality, the same menu of authentic Mexican dishes, and the same Western Old Rustic Mexican Pueblo atmosphere that has defined Mexico Lindo from the beginning. Whether you visit us in Kailua or Kalihi, you will get the same great experience — and the same great food.
Our Atmosphere
The moment you walk into Mexico Lindo, the atmosphere does something special. The warm earth tones, the rustic wood accents, the colorful art and décor — it all comes together to create a space that feels genuinely Mexican. We designed our restaurants to evoke the spirit of a traditional Mexican pueblo: welcoming, vibrant, full of life.
Our guests often tell us that dining at Mexico Lindo is a transporting experience — that even though they are in Hawaii, the sights, sounds, and smells of the restaurant make them feel like they could be in Guadalajara or Mexico City. That is exactly what we were aiming for, and it never gets old to hear.
Our Food Philosophy
Authenticity is not just a word we use in our marketing — it is the standard we hold ourselves to in the kitchen every single day. Our recipes draw from the rich regional traditions of Mexican cuisine, from the seafood-focused flavors of Veracruz and Sinaloa to the hearty meat dishes of Sonora and the fresh, herb-driven preparations of Oaxaca.
We use fresh ingredients, proper technique, and traditional spice combinations to produce dishes that taste the way Mexican food is supposed to taste. Our Camarones Al Mojo De Ajo is a perfect example: jumbo shrimp sautéed in rich garlic butter with fresh herbs and a bright citrus finish — simple, classic, and deeply satisfying.
We also celebrate Hawaii's incredible local ingredients. The islands' fresh seafood, tropical produce, and vibrant flavors complement Mexican culinary traditions in ways that feel completely natural. The result is a menu that is unmistakably Mexican in character, with a subtle but real sense of place that you can only get in Hawaii.
Part of the Community
After nearly two decades of operation, Mexico Lindo has become more than a restaurant — we are a part of the communities we serve. We have watched families grow up, welcomed generation after generation of loyal customers, and become a reliable presence in the neighborhood fabric of both Kailua and Kalihi.
That sense of community is something we do not take for granted. Every meal we serve is an opportunity to honor the trust our customers place in us — and a reminder of why we got into this business in the first place. We are grateful for every guest who has walked through our doors, and we look forward to many more years of serving Hawaii's best Mexican food.
